Romeo Lagmay, Jr. enters his second season as the head women's basketball coach at Talladega College. Last season, Talladega College uprooted its athletic program after a near 10 year absence. Coach Romeo Lagmay (pronounced Lug-My) led the women's basketball program to its national prominence in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association in his first season at the helm. The Lady Tornadoes finished the 2008-2009 season with an overall winning record of 18-13 being nationally ranked as high as #8 (USCAA) and #2 (NAIA Division I Independent), and overall #9 in the country after an automatic, stunning bid in the USCAA National Tournament held in Uniontown, PA.

This season, Coach "Romeo", as he prefers to be addressed, is leading this year's campaign motto as: The Time is Now! After a first round 5-point upset loss to the University of Cincinnati Clermont, Coach Romeo and the Lady Tornadoes are in high gear to return to the national tournament in hopes of competing in the final championship round. This year's schedule is synonymous to that of last year's with a very competitive schedule that includes opponents of all levels: Division I and II of the NCAA and NAIA as well as competitive USCAA institutions.

Coach Romeo returns four productive seniors that include All-American Morgan Bennett and National All-Tournament Player Tamiko Rounds (co-captains respectively), and Whitney Love and Tanesha Hill along with two solid returning sophomore guards in Ebony Richardson and Shakila Cole. Adding to the firepower, are a mixture of high school and junior college standouts. In addition to the teams' and individuals' athletic accolades, Coach Romeo is proud to announce of his program's outstanding contribution to community service and a joyous overall maintained team grade point average of a 3.0.

He has experience in coaching and recruiting men and women both on the collegiate and professional levels, and most of all his recruits have gone on to receive national recognition. Instant winning improvement, positive program images, increased academic team grade point averages, and becoming tough conference opponents are what make up his reputation as a coach, teacher, and supervisor of a basketball program. He is a talented recruiter, a program rebuilder, and an individual who sincerely cares for the overall moral development of his student-athletes in possessing the necessary life-long skills in order to become well-productive and successful graduates. Coach Romeo has accomplished success at the NCAA Division II level in coaching men's basketball at Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania and West Virginia Tech as well as women's basketball at Salem International University in West Virginia.

As a California state native and player, Coach Romeo played high school basketball for Fairfax HS and El Camino Real HS. After graduating with high school honors, he had a short stint career at Pasadena City College and finished his career at Feather River College (1993-95). At FRC, he was the team's captain and defensive player of the year, and graduated Phi Theta Kappa with an Associate of Arts degree in Liberal Studies. 

Coach Romeo Lagmay, Jr. has held membership in the National Association of Basketball Coaches, and currently is a member of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association, Black Coaches Association, and the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance. He also serves as a faculty member in the department of Physical Education at Talladega College.
